Instructor: Emma Schmidt
About the artist: A native Texan artist with a deep love for nature, Emma draws inspiration from the world around her to create hand-drawn designs that tell meaningful stories. With a background in painting from Savannah College of Art & Design, she has grown her art practice through a range of mediums, including intricate inked maps, watercolors, illustration, and large-scale painted murals.
Her primary medium is cartography, creating maps that tell stories, give direction and chart memories. In recent years, her maps have taken a nature focus with a range of subjects from bird migration flyways, state aquifers and springs, hiking trail maps and native species illustrations. Emma approaches her work as a cartographer, naturalist and storyteller, creating artwork that uplift a landscape in hand drawn inked lines.
