The San Antonio Botanical Garden is proud to welcome Chef Rafael Gonzales of Brackenridge High School to the Outdoor Teaching Kitchen.

This exciting new partnership between the San Antonio Botanical Garden and San Antonio Independent School District gives high school culinary programs the opportunity to take over the Garden’s Outdoor Teaching Kitchen, allowing instructors and students to showcase their talents, gain real-world experience, and connect with the community. 

A portion of every ticket sold goes directly back to the participating school’s culinary program, helping support students, equipment, and educational opportunities while investing in the next generation of San Antonio’s culinary talent.

Chef Rafael Gonzalez is a first-generation American, born and raised in San Antonio. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America and spending 10 years in San Antonio’s culinary scene, he became the Culinary Instructor at Brackenridge High School, where he is passionate about developing the city’s next generation of chefs. His students have also become a mainstay on the leaderboard at Chef Johnny Hernandez’s annual paella competition, consistently finishing among the top teams. Chef Rafael believes in making food fun and accessible for all of his students. Outside the kitchen, Chef also serves as an assistant football and soccer coach at Brackenridge.
