In this one-day class, students will learn how to use marigold flowers to dye cotton and silk fabric. We will cover how to prepare these different types of fabrics for dyeing with mordants, extract color from marigolds and other dye plants, and how to alter these beautiful golden yellows to grey greens with iron on your cloth. We will also briefly cover cultural uses of marigolds, bundle dyeing with flowers and shibori techniques. Students will come away with one cotton bandana and one small silk scarf dyed with marigolds and a handout on the processes we covered in class.
